This story was published Saturday April 26th 2008 By the Herald staff The Department of Energy confirmed that Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, a team led by Fluor, has won the contract for the management and operations of the Savannah River nuclear site in South Carolina. A team of Fluor, Northrop Grumman, Honeywell and Lockheed Martin will begin a 90-day transition period immediately, Fluor announced Friday. DOE earlier announced Fluor was the winning bidder in January, but the award was protested to the Government Accountability Office by URS, the new owner of Washington Group. The protest has been resolved in Fluor's favor. The contract is valued at $4 billion for five years but could be extended to up to 10 years for a total value of $8 billion. Fluor Hanford has been a prime contractor at the Hanford nuclear reservation since 1996 and is operating on an extension to its contract while DOE completes a bidding process at Hanford. |
