George J. MaloneNuclear Regulatory Commission officials in the Region I office in King of Prussia have selected George J. Malone as the Senior Resident Inspector at the Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant in Buchanan, N.Y.

Malone joins Resident Inspector Chris Hott at Indian Point 2.Two resident inspectors are also assigned to Indian Point 3. Both Indian Point units are operated by Entergy Nuclear.

Since Fall 2005, Malone has been the Senior Resident Inspector at Hope Creek in Hancock's Bridge, N.J. and previously was the Resident Inspector at the adjacent Salem Nuclear Generating Station.He joined the NRC in March 2002 as an operations engineer in the Region I Division of Reactor Safety. Prior to joining the agency, he worked as an operations and training engineer at Bechtel-Bettis, Inc., in Charleston, S.C. Malone also held a senior reactor operator license at a research reactor. He has a master's and a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois.

"George Malone is an excellent addition to the inspection team at Indian Point.He has the experience and commitment to safety that will help the NRC ensure that Indian Point 2 conducts operations with the highest safety standards to protect public health and safety," said NRC Region I Administrator Samuel J. Collins.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Residents can serve for up to seven years at any one site.
