This story was published Friday May 16th 2008 by U.S. Department of Energy Richland, WA - The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has named Glyn D. Trenchard, a Facility Representative for the tank farms cleanup project at DOE's Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State as the Department's Facility Representative of the Year for 2007. Mr. Trenchard works for the DOE's Office of River Protection (ORP) at Hanford, which is responsible for the removal, treatment and disposal of 53-million gallons of Cold War era chemical and radioactive waste stored in underground tanks at the Hanford Site. In receiving the award, Mr. Trenchard was cited for his thorough knowledge of facility operational requirements, nuclear safety basis and engineering practices, inquisitive nature, working knowledge of Human Performance Improvement principles, and his ability to recognize inadequate field conditions. He received the award in ceremonies held in Nevada during the National DOE Facility Representative Conference. "Mr. Trenchard's dedication, superior technical knowledge, record of results, and commitment to excellence distinguish him among the nearly 200 DOE Facility Representatives across the complex - a highly-regarded group of professionals who ensure the safe, reliable operations of our facilities," Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management James A. Rispoli said. "The exceptional performance of individuals like Glyn Trenchard is essential to achieving successful cleanup of Cold War era nuclear waste." Mr. Trenchard joined ORP in 1998 as a Facility Representative. Prior to joining ORP, he worked for the DOE's Richland Operations Office as a Program Manager for the Hanford K Basins cleanup project. Trenchard grew up in Kennewick, Washington. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Washington State University (WSU) in 1987, and a Masters in Engineering Management from WSU in 1999. Trenchard lives with his wife and three children in Richland, Washington. |
