This story was published Saturday June 21st 2008 By Annette Cary, Herald staff writer A day after being awarded the $4.5 billion contract for central Hanford cleanup, CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Co. launched a website Friday to introduce itself to Hanford workers and the community. The website at www.plateauremediation.com also includes a link for people to e-mail questions and comments. The new contractor has set up a telephone hotline at 376-7500. Hanford workers will be seeing familiar faces on the management team as cleanup in central Hanford now done under the expiring contract of Fluor Hanford transitions to the CH2M Hill company as soon as July 1. Six of the nine top managers have Hanford experience, including several who currently work at Hanford. The management team includes: * President John Lehew who has worked at the Dounreay nuclear facility in Scotland, the Miamisburg Closure Project in Ohio and at Rocky Flats, Colo. * Victor Pizzuto will be chief operating officer. He's now senior vice president of nuclear operations for CH2M Hill. * Patrice McEahern will head safety, health, security and quality. She's worked at Hanford, Rocky Flats, Idaho and Oak Ridge, Tenn., and West Valley, N.Y., nuclear sites. * Moses Jaraysi will lead environmental programs and regulatory management. He's now vice president of CH2M Hill Hanford Group. * Steve Dahlgren will be project manager for Plutonium Finishing Plant closure and balance of site decommissioning and infrastructure. He has served as director of closure for CH2M Hill Savannah River in South Carolina. * David Delvecchio will be project manager for the 100 K (Reactor) Area. He has been a project manager at the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Ohio. * Ty Blackford will be project manager for waste and fuels. He's the director of waste services for CH2M Hill Hanford Group. * Kurt Kehler will be in charge of engineering procurement and construction projects. He's now a vice president at Washington Closure Hanford. * Con Murphy, now general manager of Fluor Hanford, will head soil and ground water remediation for central Hanford cleanup. CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation has named three principal subcontractors. It chose Areva for its expertise in nuclear design; sludge system design and operations; hot cell design; spent nuclear fuel handling and management and sodium cooled reactor operations and deactivation experience, according to information posted on the new contractor's transition website. Fluor Federal Services was selected for Fluor's knowledge and experience at Hanford, including under Fluor Hanford's current operations with the expiring contract. It also has site closure and cleanup experience at Fernald, Ohio. The third principal subcontractor, East Tennessee Materials and Energy Corp., or M&EC, is a subsidiary of Perma-Fix and will provide work in waste support services, treatment and development. The key elements of CH2M Hill's transition as the new contractor for central Hanford cleanup emphasize a "safety assurance plan." "We will promote open, active dialogue with all interested parties to build trust," CH2M Hill said on its new website. The company plans to promote an open and honest culture built on communication, Lehew said in a message posted on the website. "You already have a long legacy of accomplishment and are to be commended," Lehew told workers. "Environmental remediation and nuclear decommissioning is hazardous work, which requires skilled work force such as yourselves." CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation plans to continue adding information to the website next week. It also is planning a series of community and worker meetings. |
