This story was published Tuesday March 2nd 2010

By the Herald staff

TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) - A backhoe operator was fatally injured in a construction accident at a Bonneville Power Administration substation on the Hanford nuclear reservation.

BPA spokesman Doug Johnson says Kelly Loyd of Castle Rock was doing some excavation work Monday at the White Bluffs substation when he was injured. He was taken to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland where he died. Loyd was employed by Christenson Electric Inc.

The Tri-City Herald says the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the state Department of Labor and Industries are deciding which agency would investigate.
