This story was published Wednesday December 9th 2009 By The Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) - Sen. John McCain put four projects in Washington on his list of 100 he sees wasting federal stimulus money. The list prepared by the Arizona Republican with Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma ranks the $1.9 billion for Hanford nuclear reservation cleanup at No. 10. It says Hanford work has been plagued by cost overruns and delays. Also on the list: - A fish sculpture in Kennewick, part of $122,000 for the Columbia Park Overlook Project, - The $190,000 for at patrol boat for the Bainbridge Island Police Department, - And, $50,000 to the Washington Parks and Recreation Commission to host Asian music, dance and puppet shows. Washington Sen. Patty Murray defended the Hanford spending and dismissed McCain's list as "political posturing." (with information from (Tri-City Herald, Kitsap Sun) |
