ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Sandia National Laboratories Director Tom Hunter this week announced changes to the Lab's executive leadership. The changes take effect Feb. 16, 2009.

Sandia's top management structure includes three deputy lab directors who report to Hunter. Each oversees one of Sandia's major mission or operational organizations.

The changes announced this week are as follows:

Paul Hommert will assume the role of deputy lab director for Nuclear Weapons. Currently Hommert leads Sandia's California laboratory in Livermore, Calif., as well as Sandia's Homeland Security and Defense programs. Hommert will continue to manage the California laboratory until mid summer.

Joan Woodard will transition from deputy lab director for Nuclear Weapons to deputy lab director for Integrated Technologies and Systems. In this role, Woodard will oversee Sandia's Defense, Homeland Security, and Energy programs. Woodard also will lead several strategic initiatives including strategies for energy, cyber security, and the future of science and technology.

Al Romig, currently deputy lab director for Integrated Technologies and Systems, will become the deputy lab director for Laboratory Transformation and Operations. In this role, Romig will serve as the labs chief operating officer, providing direction for major internal and external initiatives.
